A Good Place to Play Basketball in the Winter

Jumping RopeOne thing that I have done recently to give myself the ability to get some good exercise during the wintertime was getting a membership at the Sanford YMCA in Fargo. One thing that really sold me on the place was their nice basketball courts, the courts feel very new and they are quite a change from the courts that I like to play on outdoors during the summer.

In order to get a good workout just from shooting some hoops, one thing I do often is just run back and forth on the court and do layups. This allows me to get some pretty good cardio activity going without actually having to just run laps on the track. I am not a big fan of running, but there is a lot of other things that I can do that incorporate running as part of the activity.

This is just one example, and I’m sure that there are many more. Another thing that I have done recently to get more cardio activity is to jump rope as the first part of any workout that I have. I have not done a lot of jumping rope since high school, that was the place where I most recently did any sort of jump roping during any part of the workout. And that might not be all that impressive actually, since it’s been about 14 years since I’ve been in high school.

Jumping rope though is another one of those activities that I like to do as a substitute for running around track. I don’t know if I mentioned it already, but I just not a big fan of running, even though it has so many benefits. That is okay though, since there is tons of ways to get running in without just running itself.
